aAh! is Manchester Metropolitan University's official arts and culture student magazine. Whilst on the Graphic Design course at the Manchester School of Art, I served as Creative Director for the publication, leading the visual direction and design strategy. I collaborated closely with editors, writers, and other designers to develop cohesive layouts that align with the University’s voice. My responsibilities included overseeing the design team, managing the production timeline, and ensuring a high standard of visual storytelling.
I served as Creative Director from late 2019 until I completed my course in 2021. I had a fantastic time, and moving into the role from Graphic Designer was a big step in my growth as a creative. It gave me the chance to step outside my own lens and think beyond making things look good - instead shaping the overall vision, leading a team, and making sure every visual choice told the right story. It helped me to learn how to balance design with collaboration, how to give and take feedback, and how to guide a project with a lot of moving pieces. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me to grow, as well as showing me the sort of path I would like my design career to take!
